Author Gary Schmidt Speaks on "Why Writing for Our Children Matters -- More Than You May Think"

2011 Michigan Author of the Year Gary Schmidt will speak about "Why Writing for Our Children Matters -- More Than You May Think." Mr. Schmidt has a Ph.D. in medieval literature and is a professor of English at Calvin College in Grand Rapids. His newest book, "Okay for Now," was a finalist for the National Book Award and is a companion to the Newberry Honor-winning "The Wednesday Wars." Book World will be providing several of his books for sale and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the library. This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Library.

Saturday, April 14 12:00pm Hike & Annual Dinner, meet at the North Country Trail crossing on H-40. Celebration begins with a hike into the dam, sack lunch around a bonfire, and hike out. 5:00 PM: dinner and guest speaker at Pure Country Restaurant in Rudyard.

The Brown Bag Family Book Club is for children ages 8-12 and their interested adults (no age limit for the adults!). Pack a sandwich and Bayliss will provide fruit/veggies snack and a drink.
